Our Selection Criteria
The heat pump ecosystem is expanding rapidly. While this list could easily be much longer, we looked beyond titles, résumés, or follower counts. Instead, we focused on individuals actively moving heat pumps from early adoption to everyday reality.
This is not a list of legacy HVAC conglomerates. It highlights a new wave of leaders building heat-pump-first companies, improving system design and installation quality, shaping policy and incentives, and helping homeowners and professionals understand how these systems actually work.
What they share is impact. Each is influencing not only the technology itself, but the workforce, market structures, and public understanding required to make electrification durable and scalable. These individuals are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

Founder, The House Whisperer
Nate Adams is dedicated to educating around heat pump system design through a whole-house performance approach that treats homes as integrated systems rather than a collection of individual upgrades. His work focuses on solving comfort and health issues by applying building science principles to HVAC design and installation.
Through Energy Smart Ohio, Adams documents projects as case studies, emphasizing transparency and measurable outcomes. Patrick Bischoff
CEO, Gradient Comfort

Adam Chapman
Founder, Heat Geek

Dr. Lalit Chordia
Co-Founder, Clean Heat Technologies
Dr. Lalit Chordia is advancing large-scale heat pump deployment for commercial facilities, universities, and multifamily housing through Clean Heat Technologies, a Thar company focused on helping institutions transition away from fossil-fuel boilers and chillers. The company concentrates on electrified heating and cooling solutions designed for commercial-scale applications.
Dr. Chordia is the founder and CEO of Thar Energy and Thar Process, bringing deep expertise in chemical and process engineering to clean energy innovation. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University. Dr. Marshall Cox

Dr. Marshall Cox is modernizing radiator-heated and multifamily buildings at Kelvin by integrating electrification and AI-driven controls into existing systems. Cox holds an M.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Columbia University. He is the inventor of more than ten U.S. patents and has authored eight peer-reviewed papers on semiconductor devices, processing, and inorganic chemistry. Marijn Flipse
CEO & Co-Founder, Quatt
Marijn Flipse is scaling residential heat pump adoption at Quatt, an Amsterdam-based company aiming to install one million heat pumps by 2030. Since founding the company in 2021, he has focused on positioning heat pumps as a central pathway for electrifying home heating across Europe.
Before Quatt, Flipse co-founded Etergo, a smart electric mobility company known for the AppScooter®, where the team raised more than €21 million and developed electric drivetrain technology prior to its acquisition by Ola Electric Mobility in 2020. Nathan Gambling
Founder, Guild of Master Heat Engineers
Nathan Gambling is raising the standard of heat pump installation and heating communication in the UK through the Guild of Master Heat Engineers (GoMHE), a peer-assessed network that recognises proven competence in clean heat. Founded in response to widespread concerns about poor heat pump installations and inconsistent accreditation standards, the Guild focuses on craftsmanship, technical credibility, and installer excellence.
Gambling is also the founder of BetaTalk and BetaTeach, platforms dedicated to improving heating knowledge across the industry. He advises organisations including DESNZ, the Climate Change Committee (CCC), and Nesta on heating and plumbing challenges, and works with marketing teams to strengthen the scientific accuracy of heating communications. His podcast, BetaTalk, has been described as “the most important energy podcast in the UK,” and he is widely recognised for bridging the gap between policymakers and heating engineers.

Greg Jackson
CEO, Octopus Energy
Greg Jackson is accelerating heat pump adoption through Octopus Energy’s Cosy heat pumps, designed to deliver multiple units of heat for each unit of electricity. As founder of Octopus Energy Group, he has positioned the company at the center of the tech-enabled green energy transition.
Launched in 2016, Octopus now serves 7.2 million customers across 18 countries and operates a £6bn portfolio of renewable energy assets across Europe. Its proprietary technology platform, Kraken, supports the Group’s expansion and is contracted to serve more than 40 million accounts globally. Stephen Lake
Founder, Jetson
Stephen Lake is working to simplify the transition to all-electric heating and cooling at Jetson by designing, selling, and installing its own home central heat pump system directly with consumers.
Under his leadership, Jetson is combining cost savings with advanced technology to offer homeowners a complete heat pump platform that’s more affordable and is designed to remain reliable and become increasingly efficient over time.
Before founding Jetson, Lake co-founded Thalmic Labs after studying mechatronics engineering at the University of Waterloo. There, he helped develop the Myo armband and later launched Focals, smart glasses designed to integrate into everyday life. The company grew to more than 400 employees before being acquired by Google in 2020. Paul Lambert
CEO & Co-Founder, Quilt
Paul Lambert is building a new generation of ductless, smart mini-split heat pumps at Quilt, designed to deliver room-by-room or whole-home heating and cooling while making electrification easier to adopt. By focusing on product design, usability, and customer trust, Lambert is positioning heat pumps as a modern home upgrade rather than a specialist technical retrofit.
Under his leadership, Quilt launched in the San Francisco Bay Area in spring 2024 and began expanding into nearby markets. Before founding Quilt in 2022, Lambert built and exited an education startup called Learndot, held product roles at Google and Twitter, and later led sustainability efforts as a Partner at Google’s Area 120 incubator. Ari Matusiak
Founder, President & CEO of Rewiring America
Ari Matusiak is advancing heat pump adoption as a central pillar of home electrification through Rewiring America. The organization promotes heat pumps for heating and cooling, provides homeowner resources, and works to make electrification more accessible and affordable, particularly for low- and moderate-income households, as explained on an appearance on Earthings 2.0. Gary McCreadie
Founder, HVAC Know It All
Gary McCreadie is strengthening the HVAC and heat pump workforce through HVAC Know It All, a multi-platform education community built to help technicians learn, teach, and share knowledge. A licensed refrigeration and gas technician with more than 20 years of hands-on experience, he focuses on practical field education that improves installation quality and system performance.
