BIOCHAR
Biochar, a structurally stable solid with a high carbon content, is derived from the partial combustion of organic waste material or biomass in a controlled oxygen-limited environment. Biochar can serve as a standalone soil amendment or be combined with other soil enhancers, offering solutions to various environmental, agricultural, and forestry issues. Particularly noteworthy is biochar’s efficacy in binding heavy metals and chemicals present in agricultural and road runoff, making it a valuable tool for environmental remediation.
In December 2023, in the largest biochar removal agreement to date, Microsoft signed a deal with Exomad Green, the world’s largest producer of biochar, to create enough biochar to deliver 32,000 tons of carbon dioxide removal credits by June 2024. (Source: Data Center Dynamics)
