Eleven Months of PR Support Lands Acquisition for Pre-Series A Startup

Two Years of Results
“Technica was instrumental in gaining us the media and market exposure eMotorWerks needed to go from pre-series A startup to acquisition in 11 months. Lisa Ann and her team are true experts in the electrification of transportation and clean energy sectors, with all the right media connections. It was a pleasure having them on our side.”
– Preston Roper, COO and CMO of eMotorWerks
THE COMPANY
Founded in 2010, and based in the San Francisco Bay Area, eMotorWerks is the electric vehicle charging market’s leading provider of smart level 2 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and grid-connected EV charging solutions for utilities, OEMs, workplaces and apartment buildings. Its JuiceNet-enabled devices, such as the company’s connected, high-power JuiceBox charging stations, maximize charging efficiency and speed while providing EV owners intuitive control and visibility. By shifting when and how much electricity JuiceNet-enabled stations draw from the grid, eMotorWerks helps utilities and grid operators reduce electricity costs, ease grid congestion, and maximize the use of solar and wind power.
THE STRATEGY
As a pre-series A startup, eMotorWerks tapped Technica Communications to generate brand exposure for its products, with the goal of attracting new customers, partners, and investors. Technica delivered this brand recognition by first honing the company’s existing messaging and strategy, to ensure communications resonated with specific audiences and aligned with trending media conversations. Second, the firm leveraged its extensive media connections to garner a wide range of articles from local, national and international media. Third, Technica transformed news announcements and media conversations into successful speaking and award submissions that spotlighted the company’s achievements.
THE RESULTS
Each strategy and tactic Technica employed raised the credibility of eMotorWerks among potential investors and parters watching the young firm. In the summer of 2017, the startup initiated its series A raise. During this period, a series of strategically aligned news announcements caught the attention of merger and acquisition watchers at the international energy provider Enel. The content of the press releases, their rapid succession, and the press attention they garnered raised the profile of eMotorWerks from merely a corporate investment to a quality acquisition target. By October 2017, Enel had acquired eMotorWerks and was eventually folded it into the new Enel X brand
